Legacy Piano Services was founded by me, Christopher Steedman. I trained at Newark College and attained the diploma in proficiency, which was awarded after undertaking an additional. This test requires candidates to pitch raise and fine tune a piano in a set time and is assessed to professional standards.
I went on to gain extensive training in pipe organ tuning and maintenance, and this knowledge is transferable to harmoniums, which I also have expereince in restoring. I also still offer organ tuning and, if you are searching as a church, I can offer a reduced rate for combined organ and piano tuning.
I have completed one of Yamaha’s YEPTA courses which was a week-long training on the Yamaha system of tuning, regulation and trouble shooting on their silent system. This also means I can undertake warranty work for Yamaha. Furhtermore I have gone through their Silent System training, meaning I can sort any issues you may have, or fit their new upgrade silent system.
I have also passed the Pianoforte Tuners’ Association (PTA) test and am a full member of the association. This test ensures all members have reached high standards in tuning, repairs and knowledge of tuning theory and piano construction. As a member of the PTA you can be sure your piano is in safe hands. I play the piano to an intermediate level on a good day, and have a true passion for the instrument. The love and enjoyment in playing the piano fostered a natural segue into founding a piano tuning and maintenance business.
